On Oct. 13, Panla andA Taste of Africa USA launched New York's first ever African Restaurant Week (NYARW) with a kickoff event at Taj Lounge in the heart of the Big Apple. Foodies got the opportunity to taste the diverse flavors and cultures of the continent, network among professionals from fields including media, finance and fashion, and enjoy live music and performances.

This event was only a preview of what's to come, as African Restaurant Week continues through Oct. 20. Diners can enjoy prix-fix three-course meals at several high-caliber African restaurants and entertainment and networking at special events held in the city.more

Attendees were privy to an abundance of options to taste from award-winning restaurants.
Wines by African- and minority-owned companies also provided tastings to pare with dishes.

A portion of the profits from the week-long NYARW will benefit Guinee Espoir, an organization dedicated to promoting youth development in Guinea, West Africa, as well as The Telem Center for the African Child, an organization providing children of African descent with recreational camping activities, cultural and educational programs that celebrate African heritage.more
