In honor of Black History Month, Coca-Cola is kicking off the celebrations by teaming up with legendary comedian, author, radio and TV personality Steve Harvey for the 2015 Coca-Cola Pay It Forward program. The program, which is in its third year, is aimed to “pay it forward” to the next generation of African American leaders.

Ambitious young people between the ages of 16-21 must be nominated by either their parents, teachers, relatives or friends by March 15 to have a chance at winning and receiving several life-changing opportunities. The two winners will not only receive a $5,000 scholarship for his or her education, but they will also gain experience working with Harvey behind the scenes of one of his entertainment platforms.

The apprenticeship is primarily based on philanthropy, community, media and entertainment. Pay It Forward was designed to recognize African American success, along with sharing stories and to help mentees accomplish more achievements in the years to come. Through the initiative and interactive program, youths become empowered to chase their dreams and goals, while keeping the cycle alive and paying it forward within their own communities.

Previous winners have gained knowledge and first-hand exposure to successful career paths, getting to work with various fashion designers, Grammy Award-winners, and CEOs of entertainment companies.

Harvey has mentored young numerous young black males through the Steve and Marijorie Harvey Foundation. Regarding the Pay it Forward program, Harvey said, “The Coca-Cola Pay It Forward program and the Steve and Marjorie Harvey Foundation have a common goal. We want to improve, enrich, uplift and inspire young people.”

The TV host is encouraging people to nominate candidates and share their experiences on Twitter by using the hashtag #CokePayItForward.
