Comcast Celebrates Black History Month, Recognizing African American Innovators


Comcast is celebrating Black History Month in a special way, highlighting innovators in the African American community and honoring them for their hard work and success. The telecom company will be featuring special programming across various Xfinity TV platforms, highlighting some of the top tech entrepreneurs and content creators.

Efforts also include showcasing iconic leaders such as Malcom X and the Serena sisters. In addition to Xfinity’s Celebrate Black TV, Comcast is also broadening “His Dreams Our Stories,” which launched in 2013, and portrays the key moments and milestones in Civil Rights history. 

The program ends Feb. 25, with a live-streamed, two-part online chat where a panel of upcoming and inspiring leaders who impact the tech world will hold the discussion at 12 p.m. EST.

The first segment of the series will feature tech innovators such as Kimberly Bryant, Founder of Black Girls Code, Angela Benton, founder and CEO of NewME Accelerator, Luvvie Ajai, founder of, and Matthew Burnett, co-Founder of Makers Row. The second part will conclude with top content creators such as Eunique Jones Gibson, founder of Because of Them We Can, Smokey Fontaine, CCO of InteractiveOne, Baratunde Thurston, CEO and co-founder of Cultivated Wit, and Courtney Kemp-Agboh, Showrunner for “Power” on Starz.

“We are thrilled to focus this Black History Month on the contributions of entrepreneurs and innovators in the African American community who are making history today,” Keesha Boyd, Comcast’s executive director of multicultural consumer services, said in a statement. “Highlighted in our special programming and throughout our celebration are some of the best creative and pioneering minds in tech and entertainment. Comcast’s goal is to support their efforts and create an opportunity for our customers to learn more through their dynamic stories.”
