Attending the International Consumer Electronics Show, you’ll undoubtedly meet the best techies ever. This year there were more black bloggers, journalists, and analysts than ever before. It’s nice to know that the world will be able to read and watch CES coverage from an African-American perspective. Besides, the gadgets come and go. Next year, 4K LCD monitors may be obsolete, but the personal connections will exist for years to come. Here are just a few of the most interesting people that crossed my path on the first day of CES 2013.—Marcia Wade Talbert

“For me, CES is all about discovering those jaw-droppingly awesome and most innovative products that possess the wow factor and are going to enhance our lives in some way in the forthcoming year,†says Lucy Hedges, a multimedia editor at UK-based Stuff. “Kickstarter projects and startups are also particularly interesting. This is an opportunity to see the birth of a fantastic idea and talk to its creators about developing that idea into a real, veritable product. And it wouldn't be CES without a bit of Vegas partying, which I fully intend to do once I've cleared all the work.â€

Holmes is more excited this year about CES than in previous years. “I am studying this year's trends and I’m glad to see Bluetooth technology making a strong comeback through a ton of peripherals, a lot of usable technology like emergency preparedness phones and radios, and my favorite -integrations between your mobile and home electronics,†says Holmes. “There was an oven with a built-in tablet that you can pre-heat on the way home.
