You can opt out of receiving prescreened credit and insurance offers for five years or forever! To hold off for five years, just call 1-888-5-OPT-OUT (1-888-531-8688) or go online, optoutprescreen.com. To stop things forever, visit the same link and return a signed Permanent Opt-Out Election form.

Telemarketers are quite possibly the most annoying of them all. The federal government’s National Do Not Call Regristry is free, easy and it significantly reduces the number of calls you get for home security systems, super vacuums, or whatever the random item of the day is. You can register your number at donotcall.gov

or you can call 1-888-382-1222.

Minimize your physical mail too with the Direct Marketing Association’s Mail Preference Service (MPS). You can cut out unsolicited commercial mail from national companies for up to five years. It does not, however, stop mail from organizations that do not use MPS.

Similar to MPS, there is also an eMPS (Email Preference Service). Just go to dmachoice.org to opt out of unwanted commercial email for up to six years!
