Johnson founded Salamander Hospitality—which owns, manages, and develops hotels, resorts, and inns—in 2005. Previously, Johnson was a founding partner of Black Entertainment Television (BET). Johnson is the only African American woman to have ownership in three professional sports teams (WNBA’s Washington Mystics, the NBA’s Washington Wizards, and the NHL’s Washington Capitals).

all your business endeavors?
A lady in one of the villages asked me that too: ‘How do you do it all?’ I do have a great staff, but I do everything myself. The dates that I travel on, these visits are blocked out. Plus, I’m running these sports teams, so I make sure that I’m there for all my home games and I’m there for my business. But my job here is to be the voice and get the message out.
