PHOTOS: African Day Parade Brings Together Culture, Community and Global Leaders
On Sept. 22, thousands from the U.S., Africa and the Caribbean gathered to celebrate their heritage and culture at the African Day Parade held in the heart of Harlem in New York City. Sen. Bill Perkins led the parade alongside dignitaries and global leaders including representatives from Argentina, Angola, Mauritania, Trinidad and Tobago, and South Africa Embassies, from Cordell Cleare, Martin R Munitz and Olivier Prevot, to Kady Doumbia, Ladji Doumbia and Kone Kad. Also, representatives from the offices of Keith Wright, Charles Rangel and Robert Jackson came out to support and enjoy the days festivities.

More than 40 groups participated in the parade including cultural community and advocacy groups.
Participants represented African countries including Burkina Faso, Sierra Leone, Liberia, Togo, Guinea, Gambia, Morocco, Cote D’Ivoire, Senegal, Nigeria, Burundi, Kenya, Cameroon, Liberia, South Africa, Uganda, Mali, Algeria and Ghana.more
The day's activities also included live performances, hosted by actor (The Wire), entrepreneur and philanthropist Gbenga Akinnagbe.
Local and global artists performed to a packed audience.
