LISA PRICE

FOUNDER, CAROL’S DAUGHTER

Price built Carol’s Daughter from her Brooklyn kitchen, from a side-hustle into one of the most enduring natural haircare and beauty brands in recent history. With more than a 25-year loyal following among black women, including celebrities such as Oprah, and Jada Pinkett Smith, who invested in the company in 2005 (along with her husband, Will Smith, and Jay Z), the products are broadly available at Target, Ulta as well as on the Home Shopping Network. Often cited as a primary example of a woman-of-color owned-business that succeeded in catering primarily to a women of color clientele, Price has said, “I’m just an average woman who listened to the universe when it told me to believe in myself.” In 2014, Carol’s Daughter was acquired by cosmetics giant L’Oréal, helping Price position the line for future growth.
