The U.S. Labor Secretary during the Clinton administration, Herman has sought ways to improve diversity and inclusion practices in corporate America as chair and CEO of New Ventures L.L.C., her corporate consulting company, as well as in her own corporate board positions. For instance, she served as chair of the Business Advisory Board of Sodexo Inc. through 2013 and has been a member of Toyota Motor Corp.’s Diversity Advisory Board and Global Advisory Board. As chair of the company’s Human Resources Task Force from 2001 to 2006, she has worked with the company to identify ways to improve its human resources policies and practices following the November 2000 settlement of an employment lawsuit. She currently sits on the corporate boards of The Coca-Cola Co., and Cummins Inc., where she serves as one of two black female lead directors of an S&P 500 company.
