YVETTE LEE BOWSER

YVETTE LEE BOWSER

CEO, SISTERLEE  PRODUCTIONS INC.

With the groundbreaking sitcom Living Single, Bowser became the first African American woman to develop her own prime time series through her SisterLee Productions Inc. But the show itself was more than just a comedy; it offered a positive and realistic reflection of young, black female professionals and entrepreneurs never seen on TV before (it has also been said to have been the blueprint for NBC’s megahit Friends). As such, it opened the door for new, authentic stories to be told through the lens of black women. Having written and produced shows such as A Different World, Hangin’ with Mr. Cooper, and Half & Half, Bowser has created and sold more than 25 pilots for American television in the past 15 years. Her current offerings include Netflix’s Dear White People and Starz’s Run The World about young, black female professionals in Harlem.
