Applause Africa Honors Global Leaders at African Diaspora Awards

Applause Africa, a media brand for progressive Africans in the diaspora, hosted the African Diaspora Awards (ADA) Nov. 30 in New York City. The event, hosted by Emmy-nominated media professional Ojinika Obiekwe and Nasser Diallo, honored the entrepreneurial, philanthropic and leadership achievements of global leaders. Nobel Peace Prize winner and activist Leymah Roberta Gbowee delivered a stirring keynote address on the “The Power of Our Voice,” and was the recipient of the Lifetime Achievement Award. Wangechi Mutu, a native of Kenya, received the Creative Artist of the Year award.
Chinedu Echeruo, founder of Hopstop, received the Entrepreneur of the Year award for his innovations in technology.more
The community Service Award went to Mpule Kwelagobe, a model and activist hailing from Botswana who was Miss Universe in 1999.

Filippe Savadogo, the UN's Permanent Observer of the International Organisation of Francophone States (OIF), was honored as Diplomat of the Year.
A representative from IBM accepted their Company of the Year honor for their strides in tech education and employment advocacy in Africa.
Andrew Dosunmu, filmmaker and director of Mother of George, was the recipient of the Film of the Year award.
Actress YaYa Dacosta was honored with the Actor Of the Year award for her work in films including The Butler and Mother of George.
Amini Kajunju, CEO of the Africa-America Institute, was honored with the Advocate of the Year award. more
America's Next Top Model alumna Nnenna Agbai, a native of Nigeria, was honored with the Face Of Africa award.
Manyang Reath Kher, center, a native of Sudan, was the Humanitarian of the Year honoree for his work with Humanity Helping Sudan Project Inc., (HHSP), an organization that provides aid and resources to the Sudanese diaspora.
