According
to Sports Business Daily, Beckham retains an option to secure ownership of an MLS team as part of the deal which took him to the L.A. Galaxy in ’07. Beckham’s plans of possibly starting a new franchise in Florida is foiled for now because MLS commissioner Don Garber states that after the agreement of Man City and the Yankees introducing a new team to the MLS, the MLS has no plans of adding any more teams. Including the agreement between the Yankees and Man City, the MLS will have 20 teams. The idea of implementing another team so quickly after the Yankees/Manchester city deal is too much of a hassle for the CEO of the MLS to deal with all at one time. MLS wants to take a “deep breath†so the situation with Beckham can be handled in a timely and reasonable manner.
