5. The National Civil Rights Museum at the Lorraine Motel was built around the former hospitality business in Memphis, where civil rights leader Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. was assassinated in 1968. It includes pivotal moments from the narrative of the movement, ranging from the arrival of the first Africans to the British colonies in 1619 to King’s death, and including landmark events in the path to fighting for equality such as Brown v. Board of Education, the Little Rock Nine, Montgomery Bus Boycotts, and the Sit-Ins of the 1960s.
